Toba ki Dua/Dua for Forgiveness in Arabic

Shaddad bin Aus reported that the Prophet(ﷺ) said,
The best method(words) of asking for forgiveness from Allah is,

If somebody recites it during the day with firm belief in it , and dies on the same day before the evening, he will be from the people of Paradise; and if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it, and dies before the morning, he will be from the people of Paradise.

Why Is This Dua Called “Sayyidul Istighfar”?

The Master of All Supplications for Forgiveness

The word Sayyid (سيّد) means “Master” or “Chief” in Arabic. So Sayyidul Istighfar literally translates to “The Master/Chief of Seeking Forgiveness.” This title was not given by scholars — it was given directly by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “The best (most superior) way of asking for forgiveness from Allah is Sayyidul Istighfar.” He then recited the full dua — and added: “Whoever recites it during the day with firm belief, and dies before the evening, will be among the people of Paradise.
